John is in my heart forever - an example of boldness, humility, wisdom, childlike humor, purity and love for those in his family - and his Church family .....XO Missed but celebrated as one who was READY to face his eternity - an example to us all!!! Forever PROUD to be a classmate of John Decatur Greenwood.

John was Mayor Shinn our senior year in "The Music Man."  He was great in that part!  I didn't know him well, and only spoke with him a few times.  I had ONE line in that show, and in rehearsal, John inadvertently kept chiming in before I could say it.  I timidly asked him about one night at rehearsal, because I didn't know him well.  He was so sweet about it.  He hadn't realized it.  Next rehearsal, he looked directly at me when it was time for my line, so he wouldn't step on it.  I always thought that was extremely kind.

My other memory of John, is on the second night of the performance, when John missed his cue to go on stage.  We were all huddled in the Broughton basement watching the play on short circuit television, to know when to go on stage.  Benjy Templeton (Prof. Harold Hill) was knocking on "Mayor Shinn's" door and NO ONE WAS THERE.   John was standing there watching with us and suddenly realized he was supposed to be on stage.  I remember those long legs eating up the steps as John flew upstairs.  Benjy was whistling, improvising, waiting for Mayor Shinn to answer the door.  John got there, but Mayor Shin was a tad out of breath!

Rest in peace, John. Watch your "phrase-ology."
