Always called her "Viola" from orchestra days.  Caroline was a friend and inspiration to many.  She loved life and worked tirelessly for our community.  From rather humble beginnings a great lady grew.  Her smile and kindness will be missed.

I attended Caroline's memorial service at her horse farm, MacNair's Country Acres.  What struck me the most was the feeling that her spirit was so present on her farm.  I think back to our high school years and how Raleigh was in those days.  Avent Ferry Road was a two-lane road to Athen's Drive, where the city limits existed.  MacNair's  was where I was, when not at home.  I enjoyed some great times with Henry and Caroline and their family along with our Broughton schoolmates Mike Mistric, Roger Beckner, Crag Perry, Marilyn Whitley, and Helen Caldwell.  Life takes you in different directions, but whenever I got to see Caroline, the years fell away and we were the same friends as always!  I miss her now, knowing she is no longer here, but am comforted that I will see her again!  My friend, Caroline!

When I first moved to Raleigh (from outside Boston) in our Junior year (1970), our family lived in some apartments on Jones-Franklin Road...like Kenneth states in his remembrance of those times there wasn't much out there...lots of unpaved dirt and gravel roads. Those of us from that area came to school on bus "1-C". Caroline sat beside me several times to talk...she knew I was new and wanted me to feel comfortable. Ha ha ha...she was SO beautiful, and that smile. Good grief. Several years later I would go to McNair Acres and ride horses for hours and hours all over those wild woods, but never with Caroline. I would see her and she was always smiling. What a world she lived in...what a graceful and lovely person. My Grandmother's name was Caroline. In 1994 my first daughter was born, and I named her Caroline. I have never known a Caroline who wasn't a gift.
