I just found out that David Glasgow died in 2013. It's hard to believe.

I didn't know Dave at Broughton, but I saw him from time to time like so many other somewhat anonymous people in the hallway, or at school functions. He and I went to East Carolina...we were in the same dorm freshman year and as a result of not knowing anyone...and recognizing each other from Broughton...we ended up on our very first day bonding out of...need...fear? Dave had an innocent look similar to Paul McCartney from the Beatles. A guy who you couldn't imagine doing anything wrong, or at least getting blamed for it. After ECU...I never saw him again.

David is one of THE most influential and important people in my life.

On our first day he said he was going to the library to get his library card and asked if I wanted to come along. I said no. He said, "Aw, come on." So, off we went in the days before the internet to the library. Once there, because in those days the library was important, almost sacred, we were given a tour of the building. On the second floor was the campus radio station. He said, "Lets take a look." I said no. He said, "Come on." In we went. Once there we filled out applications to work there...at his suggestion. I was shy and scared...the idea petrified me.

That was 1972 and for better or worse I've been in radio since then; 45 years at this writing.

When I lived in Washington, DC (Arlington, VA) I worked at WAVA Radio and met a young lady who had just graduated from high school. Sandy wanted to be an actress, but didn't know how to go about the process. Me neither. I told her East Carolina had a great theatre department which they did. So, years later I found out that Sandy, who I knew for a total of about a month, ended up going to ECU to study theatre.

It worked out for her. Because Sandy was Sandra Bullock.

David was a truly decent person. We hung out from time to time, went to movies and ate together for several years moving a bit further apart through the natural evolution of events, but the effect he had on my life, and so many other people transcends logic.

God bless you, Dave.
